Vulnerable Persons Registry

We are excited to announce a Vulnerable Persons Registry in Guelph effective January 2, 2017.  This free registry will be open to caregivers of, and individuals themselves who may be considered vulnerable in public situations.    The Vulnerable Persons Registry (VPR) is a community based initiative in partnership with the Guelph Police Services, Community Living Guelph Wellington, and many other local community partners. The registry promotes sharing of information between vulnerable persons, the people who support them and the police. This information will assist officers when responding to an emergency involving the vulnerable individual. The registry provides quick access to critical information about a registered person, such as who to call in an emergency, a detailed physical description, and any particular sensitivities that the person may experience. Registration is completely voluntary. The database is to help alleviate safety concerns for those that are vulnerable in our community.

Please visit the VPR website for additional information. www.vulnerablepersonsregistry.ca

    The Power of Relatiobnships

7:00 pmCommunity Living, 8 Royal Rd, Guelph

Having a sense of belonging is as much a basic human need as is food and water. Being part of a strong social network helps us to be healthier, happier, and more secure. But relationships are also fragile. They are hard to build, and can change over time. Come join us as we share ideas, stories and practical ways to build, strengthen and safeguard relationships.

There is no cost for this event, but please RSVP to: joannagoode@facilitationwellingtondufferin.ca

    Family and Caregiver Evening Session

6:30 pmBest Western Plus Orangeville Inn & Suites, 7 Buena Vista Drive, Orangeville, ON L9W 0A2

Families and caregivers of people with developmental disabilities are invited to attend an engaging and interactive evening hosted by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, Central Region.

This session will be facilitated by Jim Turner, Executive Director of Community Living Atikokan, and colleagues. This evening will be an opportunity to share experiences and talk about transformation to person centred thinking and practices. Jim will be sharing not only the stories from his agency but from his own family as he has a younger brother who has a developmental disability. Jim grew up watching his parents advocate so that his brother could have the fullest life possible and will share how his brother has succeeded because the family supported him to achieve the things he wanted in life.

Following Jim’s brief presentation, attendees will have a chance to interact on key aspects of person-centred thinking and practices.

Please RSVP by November 16, 2016 to Navita Sharma at Navita.Sharma@ontario.ca to reserve your seat.
