The Volunteer Opportunities Program offers a unique opportunity for people with an intellectual disability to participate in volunteer opportunities in the community and in the programs of Community Living Guelph Wellington.
Volunteering provides an opportunity for people to contribute to their communities and experience the rewards of helping others. Through this program, people are supported to find and access volunteer experiences of interest. This program operates throughout Wellington County.
Volunteer experiences include:
- Visiting seniors in Nursing Homes, assisting with Pet and Music Therapy, assisting in the kitchen and laundry.
- Grooming, walking, cleaning kennels/cages, and petting the animals at the local Humane Society.
- Visiting local schools and assisting Pet Therapy programs, Breakfast Club Program, Hot Dog/Pizza Day, and assisting in the Library.
- Assisting local agencies to organize donated clothing, watering plants, knitting, cleaning toys, farm and park maintenance, packaging and cleaning food boxes for Garden Fresh Box Program, folding church bulletins, and cleaning churches.
- Volunteer and recreational experiences in program areas include computer recreation, cash register training, exercise classes, yoga, line dancing, literacy, nutrition classes, money handling, pet therapy, anger management, music therapy, and relaxation therapy.
