Supported Employment

The Supported Employment Program provides training and support for people with an intellectual disability who are searching for paid employment in the community. Services include:

  • assessment of their employment skills
  • develop resume and interview skills
  • assistance with contacting potential employers and securing employment
  • learn new job skills
  • on-site job coaching
  • promote independence
  • community readiness
  • achievers night
  • networking committees

There are many benefits to the person participating in the Supported Employment Program. People have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and abilities, they experience an improved self-esteem and an improved quality of life, and they make new friends in their place of employment.

Benefits are also experienced by the businesses who employ and include a person with an intellectual disability in their work place. Employers gain a hard-working, dedicated employee; experience improved staff morale; access to a free job coach to provide on-the-job training; and a better understanding and appreciation of the skills of people with a disability.
